When you have your picture taken by a professional, there are many ways you can keep the finished photograph. Some may be better than others for you.
To help you think through some of the advantages of each, I have highlighted some of the characteristics of the different ways you can store your senior portrait prints or family pictures.
Digital Downloads
Digital is often the first thing that many of my clients think of for their pictures. After all, digital lets us share them with grandparents with a quick email or upload to a digital photo frame. We can get the digital downloads as soon as the pictures are done with editing, so we don’t need to worry about waiting for a delivery.
CD/DVD or USB drive
Almost as quick as a download, we can get physical storage that we know and are comfortable with. This also gives us the control of knowing where the pictures are stored. I know sometimes it is easy to lose track of pictures on our computers. When your computer breaks down or it comes time to buy a new one, making sure we copy all these memories to the new computer is easier if we have them in a separate place.
Printed - Paper
Most of my clients order most of their selections to be printed on paper. These can be as small as wallets to share with friends and extended family. They can also be be large format and framed to display prominently in your house. You can read some of my suggestions for displaying pictures here: https://picture-lady.com/behind-the-lens/f/creative-ways-to-display-senior-portraits-in-your-home)
Printed -Other
Graduation announcements and holiday cards are some other ways my clients like to use pictures from their senior sessions. After all, this is a milestone that we want to share with friends and family.
Canvas
Another popular option is to have them printed on canvas. This is often done with a gallery wrapped frame and can be sized to fit almost any space you want to hang it. The elegant look of a canvas print adds a nice touch to almost any room in your house.
Book
Are you having trouble deciding which pictures you like most? A photo book is a great way to pick all your favorites. A book is a great way to show off the pictures from your senior session. You can have in sitting on a coffee table or on an easel opened and you can change which picture you see as often as you wish.
A Word Of Caution
Remember that technology changes, so before you decide on a technology only option, think about your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their computers will most likely not have the same technology options as we do today. Many computers today no longer have a built-in CD drive. USB technology will probably change in the next decade or so. Some of my treasured memories are photographs of my family, photographs on paper that have been around longer than the computer technology we are using today.
